Meet Ace —
Ace’s story with Misfit Ranch began after the people he knew as family packed up their belongings, moved away, and left him behind.
By the time Ace joined the Misfit family, he was underweight, dehydrated, and understandably shut down. Everything familiar to him had disappeared, and suddenly he was navigating an entirely new world with people he didn’t know.
Our first priority was simply making sure he received the care, nutrition, and security he needed while giving him the time and space to realize he was safe.
But even during those first uncertain days, there was something incredibly special about Ace.
Despite everything he had experienced, he still wanted connection. He sought out affection from the people caring for him and showed us that somewhere underneath that quiet, withdrawn exterior was a dog who desperately wanted to love and be loved.
Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait very long to meet him.
Little by little, the tail started wagging. Then came the butt wiggles. His eyes became brighter, his confidence began to grow, and the walls around him started coming down.
Before long, the happy boy Ace was always meant to be came bursting through.
His journey is a beautiful reminder of just how much can change when a dog who has been left behind is finally given something he can count on: proper care, patience, safety, and the opportunity to simply be loved.

We have been working on getting Ace to a healthy weight so he can be neutered. He's come a long way and is almost there!

Ace is house trained, crate trained and a ton of fun to play with. He's been able to complete an obedience training program in the time he's been with us.
His adoptive family will receive a complimentary training session to learn his commands and how to work with him.

The quiet, shut-down dog who first arrived at Misfit Ranch is almost impossible to recognize in the Ace we know today.
Ace has blossomed into an incredibly affectionate, playful, and wonderfully mischievous boy who believes he should be involved in absolutely everything happening around him. He loves being with his people, is always ready for an adventure, and has perfected the art of keeping us laughing with his antics. Somewhere along the way, our sweet, timid boy turned into our resident goofball and we wouldn’t have him any other way.
But perhaps the most beautiful part of watching Ace come into his own has been seeing the effect he has on other dogs.
Ace has an incredible ability to bring out a playful side in dogs who don't normally seek out social interaction. We’ve watched dogs who typically prefer to keep to themselves choose to engage with him. Even dogs who have struggled with reactivity around other dogs have surprised us by inviting Ace to play.
There’s just something about him.
He seems to understand when another dog needs a little space, when they’re ready for an invitation, and when it’s finally time to play. He doesn’t need everyone to be his friend immediately—somehow, he simply has a way of making friendship feel worth considering.
For a dog who once needed help finding the confidence to let his own personality shine, watching Ace now help other dogs discover theirs has been an incredibly beautiful thing.
Ace came to Misfit Ranch needing a safe place to land. Somewhere along the way, he became a safe place for others, too. ❤️
Thank you for taking the time to visit Misfit Ranch online and for reading about our boy Ace.
