Meet Sawyer — the dog who was left behind, but never lost his ability to love.

Sawyer didn’t come to us the way most dogs do. He was supposed to be here temporarily—a short stay while his owner worked a local event featuring Misfit Ranch. We were asked to board him for a few days since the event's hotel didn’t allow dogs. Of course, we said yes.

​

But when the event ended, his owner left… and Sawyer didn’t.

​

After multiple attempts to reach him, we finally received a message—an apology, and the confirmation that he wouldn’t be coming back. Just like that, Sawyer became one of ours. While we’ll never understand how someone could walk away so easily, we’re grateful he was here when it happened—because his story could have ended very differently.

​

When Sawyer first arrived, it was clear he had been struggling for a long time.

He was shut down, unsure of people, and overwhelmed by the world around him. His physical condition told an even harder story—his skin was inflamed and painful, his coat thinning with large bald patches and scabs, and his fur falling out in clumps.

 

He wasn’t just scared—he was hurting.

A full medical evaluation revealed just how much his body had been trying to endure. Sawyer was dealing with vitamin and mineral deficiencies, a skin infection, a urinary tract infection, and suspected food allergies that had likely gone untreated for quite some time.

​

So we started where every dog deserves to start—with healing.

​

With proper medical care, medicated baths, improved nutrition, and time to decompress, Sawyer began to change. The inflammation started to fade, his coat began to recover, and slowly but surely, the worried dog we met started to let his guard down.

​

And underneath it all… Sawyer’s personality began to shine through.

​

He’s still a sensitive soul who takes a moment to warm up—but for those willing to give him that time, he reveals a gentle, goofy, and deeply loyal companion. The kind of dog who bonds hard, loves deeply, and just wants to feel safe in his person’s world.

​

Sawyer is proof that sometimes the dogs who come in quietly, carrying the most uncertainty, are the ones who leave the biggest impact.

​

He didn’t deserve to be left behind—but he did deserve a second chance.

And now, he’s ready for the person who will never walk away from him again.

​

Sawyer is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Nutritional testing revealed he was allergic to the food he was eating so we made an easy food switch to a food he is loving and thriving on!

​

His infections have resolved with treatment and he was given a clean bill of health!
