Thanos' Story
Sometimes love isn't enough.
Thanos' journey began when a teenage boy surprised his girlfriend with the puppy she'd always dreamed of after finding her on Craigslist. Their hearts were in the right place, but as life unfolded, it became clear that two teenagers simply weren't in a position to provide the lifelong commitment every puppy deserves.
Then everything changed.
When the girlfriend's family lost their home, Thanos was left behind.
Still just a young dog herself, she suddenly found herself without the people she thought would always be there.
In the spring of 2020, Thanos became part of the Misfit family and what began as giving a young dog a safe place to land soon became so much more.
She found stability.
She found consistency.
She found people who would never leave her behind again.
Today, Thanos is a joyful, affectionate member of the Misfit family who greets each day with the same enthusiasm only a bully breed can bring. Whether she's spending time with her people, relaxing around the Ranch, or simply enjoying the comfort of knowing she's safe, Thanos has become everything we hoped she could be.
Sometimes life doesn't begin the way we imagine.
But that doesn't mean it can't become something beautiful.

Thanos' Health Journey
When Thanos joined the Misfit family, one of our first priorities was ensuring she received the preventive care every dog deserves. She was microchipped, brought up to date on her vaccinations, and began receiving the individualized care that every Misfit receives from the day they arrive.
Before we had the opportunity to schedule her routine spay surgery, Thanos experienced a life-threatening hormonal imbalance not common in dogs her age that required emergency surgery and a lengthy recovery. Thankfully, with prompt veterinary care, dedicated rehabilitation, and plenty of time to heal, she made a full recovery. As part of her treatment, she was spayed, and while her veterinary team advised that a few things should be monitored as she ages, she's done remarkably well.
Not long after recovering, Thanos faced another unexpected emergency when she suffered a severe anaphylactic reaction to a bee sting. The reaction was life-threatening and taught us that bee stings pose a serious risk to her health. Because of that, emergency medication is always kept close by so we're prepared should she ever need it again.
Today, Thanos is happy, healthy, and thriving. She enjoys a diet carefully selected to avoid her food intolerances and allergies, receives regular preventive veterinary care, and continues to live a full, active life surrounded by the people who know and love her.

Thanos' Training
Thanos has successfully completed both basic and advanced obedience training, but for her, training has always been about much more than learning commands.
Because Thanos has a life-threatening allergy to bee stings, building an unwavering foundation of trust, communication, and reliability became essential to keeping her safe.
Like many bully breeds, Thanos has a naturally strong prey drive and an endless curiosity about the world around her—including the buzzing insects that can pose a serious danger to her health. We knew that in an emergency, every second could matter.
That meant teaching more than obedience.
It meant building a relationship where a single cue—whether it's "Leave it" or "Come"—would immediately redirect her attention back to us.
Through patience, consistency, and countless hours of training together, that's exactly what we've accomplished.
Today, Thanos enjoys the freedom to explore the Ranch knowing that the relationship we've built helps keep her safe. Her training isn't just something she knows—it's become one of the most important tools we have to protect the happy, healthy life she enjoys every day.

Why I'm a Sanctuary Misfit
Thanos has overcome more than most people will ever realize.
Although she's healthy, happy, and thriving today, her medical history has taught us that she benefits from a level of observation and individualized care that's difficult to recreate outside the Misfit family.
Because of the life-threatening reaction she experiences to bee stings, we've learned to recognize even the smallest changes in her behavior that tell us something isn't right. Those early signs allow us to respond quickly, provide emergency medication when needed, and help prevent a medical emergency before it has the opportunity to become something much more serious.
Living with Thanos every day has also taught us something else.
When she's uncomfortable or in pain, she doesn't always express it in obvious ways. Like many dogs, physical discomfort can affect how she experiences the world around her, making it important that the people caring for her understand both her medical history and the subtle ways she communicates.
Thanos also feels most comfortable in a calm, predictable environment. While she loves spending time with the people she knows and trusts, the fast-paced, unpredictable energy of young children isn't the right fit for her.
For all of these reasons, we've chosen to give Thanos the lifelong stability of sanctuary.
Here, she has a team who understands her, recognizes her unique needs, and is always prepared to give her whatever she needs to stay healthy, safe, and comfortable.
For Thanos, sanctuary isn't about what she can't do.
It's about making sure she always has the people who know her best by her side.
