Tandie

Meet Tandie — This sweetheart's story is an important reminder that sometimes a dog ends up needing rescue not because they did something unexpected, but because the humans responsible for them made a decision that put them in a position to fail.

Tandie had been adopted and lived in a home for several years. Her family knew that she had a high prey drive and was not compatible with cats. Despite knowing this, she was brought into the home with the intention of managing the situation by keeping the animals separated behind a closed door.

​

Unfortunately, management failed. A door was accidentally left open, the cat slipped out, and a scuffle occurred between the two animals. After the incident, Tandie’s owner decided the situation was too much to manage and requested that she be euthanized.

The behavior that put Tandie’s life at risk was not new, unexpected, or previously unknown. She had already shown that she was not safe with cats. Tandie didn’t choose to live with an incompatible animal, and she shouldn’t have been expected to pay with her life when a human management system failed.

Thankfully, someone intervened before that could happen.

​

Tandie was given another chance, and that chance brought her to Misfit Ranch.

​

Since joining us, this beautiful girl has had the opportunity to simply be herself without being asked to coexist with animals she isn’t compatible with. She has been thriving and is incredibly playful and affectionate with everyone she has met.

Tandie doesn’t need to become a dog who can live with cats. She needs humans who understand the dog in front of them, respect her limitations, and make responsible choices that allow everyone involved to remain safe.

Her previous family may have decided they couldn't continue her story, but they didn't get to decide how it ended.

Tandie is up to date on vaccinations, chipped and spayed. She is in great health with her only intake issue being some food allergies. We completed a full nutritional panel and have her on a wonderful food that can be purchased at many local stores and on Chewy or Amazon. Misfit Ranch provides support for the life of all of our Misfits and so continued nutritional support will be provided, if needed.

Tandie is house trained, crate trained, has basic skills and is currently working on additional training with us. She is food motivated, playful and eager to please so we have had no issues with teaching her new skills. Anyone who adopts Tandie will receive complimentary training sessions if requested. We don't want to hold her back from a forever home for things that can be taught at a later time and are bonus skills.

Tandie has done amazingly well since joining the Misfit family. She is an incredibly playful, affectionate girl who loves being included in whatever her people are doing. Whether that means playing at home or heading out for an adventure, Tandie is happiest when she gets to be an active part of the day.

She would make a fantastic hiking or running partner and would thrive with someone looking for a dog to get out and explore with. She’s also extremely intelligent and picks up new skills quickly. One of the things that has impressed us most is how easily she adapts to change. New environments and routines don’t seem to faze her—she quickly figures out what’s expected and settles right in.

​

While Tandie enjoys being active, she doesn’t necessarily need a big house or backyard to be happy. She could do equally well in a home or apartment as long as her physical and mental needs are consistently being met. Her ideal family will make daily activity part of life, whether that’s playing together at home, going for walks or runs, hitting the trails, or bringing her along for adventures.

When it comes to canine friends, Tandie is selective about who she wants in her circle. She prefers the company of male dogs who are similar in size to her or larger. As always, any potential canine sibling would need to be introduced appropriately to make sure everyone is a good match.

​

Tandie made quick friends with Themba when she arrived and have become best friends. If you are looking for a duo, they would do wonderful as an adopted pair but Tandie can be adopted solo.

​

Above all, Tandie is a fun, smart and affectionate dog who is ready for a family that appreciates her for exactly who she is—and gives her plenty of opportunities to enjoy life alongside them.
